Sights / Optics: The front sight is a folding post sight and the rear sight is a Matech Solutions adjustable rear sight.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The buttstock is a fixed A2 stock with sling ring and checkered buttplate with storage compartment. The pistol grip is an A2 checkered grip. The handguard is a mid length quad rail handguard. The LOP measures 13 1/2 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. There are no notable signs of wear or use. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is mostly sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. There are some light storage marks from being stored in the original box. There are no other notable defects in the finish. Overall, the condition of this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger has a crisp break. The safety functions as it should. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with any firearm, many will want to clean the firearm depending on their standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt R6601 Sporter Match HBAR is one of the finest examples of a transitional, pre-ban AR-15 rifle designed for civilian marksmanship competition and high-accuracy applications. Manufactured between 1991 and 1992 during a time when Colt was rebranding its civilian line to distance it from military features, this model retains the heart of the AR platform while maintaining compliance with the evolving legal landscape of the era. Chambered in 5.56 NATO/.223 Remington and equipped with a 20″ heavy barrel (HBAR), the R6601 was built to deliver exceptional accuracy and reliability.
This particular example is in outstanding condition, showing only light storage marks and virtually no evidence of use. The bore is pristine with sharp rifling and no signs of erosion, and the Colt fixed A2 stock, A2 pistol grip, and quad-rail handguard are all in Excellent shape. The upgraded Matech rear sight is a practical enhancement, giving the shooter greater adjustability while preserving the rifle’s original silhouette. The upper and lower receivers retain a clean, factory-original finish with crisp markings and tight tolerances.
