Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45 ACP”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2,72 JAN. 19,75” and with the “Rampant Colt” logo. The underside of the frame at the grip frame is marked “SA66074”. The left side of each portion of the grip frame is marked with assembly number under the grips, found again on the rear face of the frame and hand-written on the inside of each grip panel. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP” in a triangle and at the rear with a “K”, the right of the trigger guard is marked “H”. The front face of each cylinder is marked. The rear face of each cylinder is marked “45”, the .45 ACP cylinder is also marked “ACP”.

Barrel Length: 4 3/4”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter round blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square groove in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece smooth bone panels with gold-colored Colt medallions. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. The .45 Colt cylinder has light handling marks as well as the .45 ACP has no notable wear. Otherwise, no turn lines. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Cylinder lockup produces almost no play. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with wood with Colt Custom Shop Display Box with blue velvet lined inserts fitted to the revolver, a beautiful, limited, special factory edition, paperback book from the Colt Armory, entitled “The History of the Colt Armory in Hartford 1855-1980” filled with pages of history about the Colt company; and the additional cylinder. The case has scattered light storage wear, scuffs and a brass latch, in about Very Good condition.

Our Assessment: Everyone should have a Colt Single Action Army, and this example from Colt’s Custom Shop would be a nice one to add to any collection. Manufactured in 1983, this revolver is a Colt Armory Edition, one of only 500 with 150 finished blue & case color and 150 finished nickel. This example is in Excellent condition with no evidence of turning on the .45 Colt cylinder, none on the .45 ACP cylinder either, and otherwise showing only light handling marks in its beautiful finish and gorgeous stocks. The pistol comes in its original display, the presentation case which would have originally shipped with the gun. It is beautiful and will make a great display in a Colt collection or BBQ gun for the lucky winner. I highly encourage you to take a look at the condition in our high quality photos. -K.F.
