Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”. The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, -72 JAN. 19, -75”. The bottom of the frame is marked with the serial number. The left side of the grip frame is marked with the serial number. Both grip panels are marked “463”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square-notch at the rear of a groove in the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece black checkered synthetic. There are very light handling marks. There is a scratch on the butt of the left panel. There are no chips or cracks. The grips have the Colts rampart at the top and an eagle at the bottom. Overall, the grips are in about Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Blue & Case Color
Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows little wear. On the left side of the frame just behind the cylinder, the case color is peeling. The case color is vivid, and in great shape. The screws are sharp, and the pins are unmarred. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this revolver is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Lockup produces very little play side-to-side and minor end-shake on all six chambers. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this revolver, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army remains one of the most iconic revolvers ever produced, with a lineage stretching back to 1873. Even into modern production, Colt continues to build these revolvers to the traditional pattern, complete with the side-loading gate cylinder, four-click action, and case-colored frame. Chambered in .45 Colt, this revolver carries the legacy of the cartridge that defined much of the American West and continues to be a favorite among collectors, reenactors, and cowboy action shooters. The 4.75” barrel is the “civilian” length, one of the most popular configurations for its balance of portability and shootability.
This 2008-manufactured example is in Excellent condition, retaining about 99% of its original blue and vivid case coloring, with only very light handling wear and a small spot of case color lifting just behind the cylinder. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, rating 9.5/10. The synthetic grips are checkered, adorned with the Colt rampart and eagle motifs, and remain solid with only a faint scratch on the left panel’s butt.
