Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army Third Generation represents Colt’s continuation of its most iconic revolver into the modern era, preserving the classic lines, balance, and mechanical character that have defined the SAA since the nineteenth century. By the early 1990s, Third Generation production had clearly matured, with Colt emphasizing careful assembly, high polish finishes, and faithful adherence to traditional Single Action Army features. Revolvers from this period are increasingly appreciated for their consistency and quality, particularly when encountered in exceptionally high condition.

This 1993 example is fitted with the highly desirable 4 3/4 inch barrel and finished in factory nickel, presenting on a black powder–style frame with the distinctive “bullseye” ejector head. Condition is outstanding and approaches mint. The revolver appears unfired beyond factory testing and retains approximately 99 percent of its original finish, with no visible dings, no carbon rings on the cylinder, and no turn line present. The bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating a full 10 out of 10. Markings remain crisp and legible throughout, and all screw heads are sharp and undisturbed.

The revolver is fitted with two-piece walnut grips bearing Rampant Colt medallions. These show only minimal handling marks near the base and backstrap, retain strong medallion detail, and are free of chips or cracks, rating in Fine overall condition. Mechanically, the action functions correctly with tight lockup, no perceptible play, and a crisp trigger pull. Accompanied by its original Colt factory blue felt-lined box, this Single Action Army stands as an exceptional Third Generation example, combining a classic configuration, premium nickel finish, and near-new condition that will strongly appeal to Colt collectors seeking a pristine modern-era SAA.
