Our Assessment: The Colt Service Model Ace was Colt’s answer to practical and economical target training, allowing shooters to maintain familiarity with the full-size 1911 platform while utilizing the affordable and soft-shooting .22 Long Rifle cartridge. These pistols offer the same ergonomics and trigger feel as a Government Model .45, making them invaluable for both training and sport.
Introduced in the mid-1970s, the Service Model Ace replaced the original floating chamber design with a fixed barrel blowback system, significantly increasing reliability and accuracy. Built with Colt’s hallmark quality, these pistols have developed a strong collector following, especially those in original condition with their factory packaging.
