Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT BUNTLINE SPECIAL .45”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75”, alongside the rampant Colt logo. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT.F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT, U.S.A.”. The bottom of the frame is marked with the serial number “59625SA”. The left side of the grip frame is marked “59625SA”.

Barrel Length: 12 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter moon fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a square notch cut into to the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are a two-piece stag. There are no notable marks, defects, or signs of use on the grips. All markings and the checkering are well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition. 

Type of Finish: Blue, Case Color

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates at a 9 out of 10. 

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 90% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows handling and storage wear. There are scratches and finish loss throughout. The case color on the frame has muted. The muzzle has some finish loss. The frame has some light oxidization. The cylinder has a turnline. The barrel has the concentration of scratches. The screw heads are tooled with strong slots, pins are unmarred, and the markings are clear and legible. Overall, this revolver rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements

Our Assessment: This Colt Buntline Special Single Action Army revolver presents in Fine overall condition, retaining about 90% of its original blue and case-colored finish. The case colors on the frame have softened with light oxidation visible along the barrel and frame edges. The blued surfaces show scattered handling marks, finish loss at the muzzle, and light surface scratches, particularly along the barrel flats. The stag grips are Excellent, well-fitted, and free of cracks or chips, displaying crisp natural texture and attractive grain. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no signs of erosion, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. Mechanics are sound—the revolver locks up tightly, the timing is correct, and the trigger breaks cleanly.
