Our Assessment: The Colt New Frontier Single Action Army was introduced in 1961 as an upgraded version of Colt’s legendary Peacemaker, intended to combine the classic single-action design with features suited for precision target shooting. Distinguished by its adjustable rear sight and ramped front blade, the New Frontier gave shooters a higher level of accuracy than the traditional fixed-sight SAA while still offering the look and feel of the Old West. Chambered in .44 Special, a cartridge known for accuracy and controllability, this 5.5” example represents one of the most desirable configurations for both collectors and shooters.
This revolver, made between 1961 and 1975, remains in Excellent condition, retaining about 99% of its original finish. The blued barrel and cylinder are deep and clean, and the case coloring on the frame remains vivid. Wear is minimal, with only a faint cylinder turn line and a few light handling marks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, rating 9 out of 10, and the mechanics are excellent, with a crisp action and near-perfect lockup. The checkered hard rubber grips with rampant colt ovals and eagle motifs are sharp and well-preserved. Please look at our photos and good luck with your bid! -N.P
