U.S.A.” The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2, 72 JAN. 19, 75” and a Rampant Colt logo. The bottom of the frame is marked with the serial number, seen also, hand written, on the factory box. The left side of the trigger guard bow has the Verified Proof mark and a “O”. The right side of the trigger guard is marked with “Z”. The front of the cylinder is marked “3647”, the rear is marked “44-40”. The left side of the grip frame is marked with the serial number twice.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blued blade integral to a serrated base mounted to the barrel. The rear sight is square notched leaf pinned to the top strap, adjustable for elevation and windage.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are a beautiful two piece stag horn set, which are not serialized to the pistol but have superb fit to the grip straps. No damages are seen. The grips rate in about Mint overall condition.
Type of Finish: Blue and Case Colored
Finish Originality: Factory Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There appears to be a divot in the metal about 3 1/2″ back from the muzzle on the lower right side, we are unsure what caused this because the revolver lacks evidence of long term use. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The cylinder is free of a notable drag line, the metal surfaces only have a few tiny scuffs and light bruises under the barrel from center pin removal at some point. The metal to metal fit and finish is beyond beautiful. Oddly enough, there is a divot in the rifling about 3 1/2″ back from the muzzle, we are not sure how this got there, the pistol was probably handled a few times and shot even less, there is no bulge on the outside of the barrel. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine Plus to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The assume the action functions correctly; given the condition of this pistol, we chose not to cock it. We did not fire this handgun. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in the original maroon Colt box with a hand written, matching serial number on the end label; the exterior has roughing at the corners and scrapes on the flats, the bot is in Very Good condition. The inner foam liners have light wear and compression, in Fine condition.
Our Assessment: This is a beautiful Colt New Frontier in .44-40 WCF, with its original box and stag horn grips. The fit and finish is beyond words and almost all finish remains. This is a classic gun in a classic caliber that is going to drop jaws. From Colt’s Website: “The legend of Colt continues in the New Frontier, Single Action Army. From 1890 to 1989, Colt manufactured a variation of the venerable Single Action Army with a uniquely different profile. The “Flattop Target Model” was fitted with an adjustable leaf rear sight and a blade front sight. Colt has taken this concept several steps further to bring shooters a reintroduction of a Colt classic. The New Frontier has that sleek flattop design with a rear sight that is adjustable for windage and elevation along with a target ready ramp front sight. The New Frontier is offered in .44 Special and .45 Colt in various barrel lengths. These guns are meticulously finished in Colt Royal Blue on both the barrel and cylinder, with a color case hardened frame.”
