Our Assessment: This Colt Magnum Carry 1st Edition is a rare and desirable double-action revolver chambered in .357 Magnum, designed as a compact powerhouse for concealed carry and serious defensive use. Produced for a very limited time in the late 1990s before being discontinued, the Magnum Carry was Colt’s answer to the small-frame magnum revolver market—blending their renowned craftsmanship with stainless steel durability, a full underlug, and the power of the .357 cartridge in a concealable package. Marked “1st Edition” on the barrel, this example is especially collectible, as Colt quickly ceased production of this model, making surviving examples few and far between. This revolver is in Excellent overall condition, retaining about 98% of its original stainless steel finish. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and only light fouling, earning a 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The cylinder shows a crisp turn line, but the overall fit and finish remain extremely clean. The black Hogue overmolded rubber grip is in Very Good condition with only modest wear, providing secure handling and control. Mechanically, the revolver locks up tight, and the action is smooth and responsive in both single and double action modes—typical of Colt’s high-quality revolver engineering.
For collectors of Colt wheelguns or those seeking a premium, small-frame .357 Magnum revolver, the Magnum Carry 1st Edition is a grail-level piece. Its short production run, limited availability, and 1st Edition rollmark set it apart from other compact revolvers. Whether you plan to carry it, shoot it sparingly, or preserve it as a collectible, this revolver represents a unique and valuable part of Colt’s modern revolver history. -R.E.
