Markings: The right of each barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION FRONTIER SCOUT 22 L.R.”, the top of each is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”. The left of each frame is marked with a circled Rampant Colt logo. Each revolver has its serial number marked on the bottom of the frame in front of the trigger guard. Each revolver’s grip frame has decorative engraving on the butt. The left of the barrels are marked:

Sights / Optics: The front sights are blades fixed to the fronts of the barrels. The rear sights are square notches integral to the topstraps.

Stock Configuration & Condition: Each revolver has two-piece grip panels. The grips are faux pearl, faux ivory, smooth wood, checkered black plastic with rampant colt in oval at the tops, or checkered black plastic with rampant colt in oval at the tops and American eagles at the bottoms. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks in any of the grips. The checkering is sharp. The colts and eagles have good detail. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Each of the revolvers has an alloy frame and grip frame with steel barrels and cylinders. The finishes include all gold, gold with blue trim (screws/ejector) and two-tone blue/black and silver.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bores are bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bores.

Overall Condition: Most of the revolvers retain 99% of their metal finish, showing only light handling marks. All screw heads are sharp and all markings are clear. These revolvers are in Excellent condition.

The Chisholm Trail revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish with a few light nicks and scuffs in the grip frame, in Fine-Excellent condition.

The Pawnee Trail revolver retains about 97% of its metal finish with some scattered minor nicks and scuffs on the frame and loading gate, in Fine-plus condition.

The Santa Fe Trail revolver retains about 95% of its metal finish with some scattered minor discoloration in the silver finish of the grip frame and hammer. Its frame has a couple of small nicks, one on the top-right of the topstrap and another at the bottom-right edge above the trigger guard, in Fine condition.

The Fort Larned revolver retains about 96% of its metal finish with a small patch of wear on the backstrap and some minor wear on the loading gate, in Fine condition.

Mechanics: The actions function correctly. We did not fire these pistols. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Each revolver comes in a wood Colt Kansas Series display case with fabric-lined French-fit interior. The Cowtown series cases have a simple hinged brass latch, the other revolvers’ cases have a locking latch with a slider-release. Most of these cases come with a key for their latch, a couple are missing. Each key works on each locking case. The cases show light storage wear with some scattered light nicks and scratches, in Very Good-Fine condition. Also included is an assortment of Colt factory paperwork and a copy of “Colt Commemorative Firearms” from a limited pressing of 1,000 books, numbered to the revolvers and signed by author R.L. Wilson and publisher Charles Kidwell of Kidwell’s Hardware, Inc.

Our Assessment: This is quite the set! A complete Colt Kansas Series set of twelve Frontier Scout .22 revolvers, four each in the Kansas Cowtown, Trail, and Fort sub-series. The revolvers each have an individual mix of gold, silver, and black/blue finishes and wood, faux-ivory, faux-pearl or checkered plastic grips. The guns are all serial-matched and included is a serial-matched copy of R.L. Wilson’s “Colt Commemorative Firearms”, one of only 1,000 published. Colt only manufactured 500 of each of these Kanas Series revolvers, and to find a complete matching set will not be getting any easier.
