Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore, but there is a slight bulge about 1″ in front of the chamber. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates about 7 out of 10 and would rate higher but for the bulge.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The are a few minor scuffs and tiny scratches. There is a faint “idiot mark” under the slide stop on the left of the frame. The action shows minor operational wear. The grip screws have light tool marks in the slots, but sharp edges. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide to frame fit has light play. We did not fire this firearm. As with all used firearms, it may need a thorough cleaning to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a total of two 7-round Colt magazines.
Our Assessment: Colt Gold Cup National Match pistols were the benchmark standard for a .45 Auto target pistol for decades. With hand-fitted parts, match grade barrels and bushings, adjustable target sights and a wider trigger adjustable for over-travel, they came from Colt’s factory with upgrades you could spend more than the price of the pistol to have done by a gunsmith on a standard 1911. This one is the Gold Cup Commander, with a shorter 4 1/4? barrel and stainless steel finish. It has light wear consistent with infrequent use and long-term storage, though there is a minor bulge in the bore. If you can source a replacement barrel, this should still prove to be a great shooter. It would also be a good addition to a collection missing the Gold Cup Commander.
