Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45 ACP”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. Co. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY 2,72 JAN.19,75” and with the “Rampant Colt” logo. The underside of the frame at the grip frame is marked “SA64970”. The front and back strap are both marked “SA64970” on the left side. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP” in a triangle and at the rear with a “K”, there is an “H” marked on the right of the trigger guard. The front of each cylinder is marked “4970”, the rear of each is marked “45”, one is also marked “ACP”. The inside of each grip panel has “64970” hand-written.
Barrel Length: 4 3/4”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter round blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square groove in the top strap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is one-piece smooth bone with silver-colored Colt medallions. The grips have no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.
Type of Finish: Nickel
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are scattered spots of minor cloudiness, mostly on the .45 ACP cylinder. There are a few minor nicks and light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Fine-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. Cylinder lockup produces almost no play with each cylinder. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes with a Colt display case fitted for the revolver, the additional cylinder and a copy of “The Colt Armory” by Ellsworth S. Grant.
Our Assessment: Everyone should have a Colt Single Action Army, and this example from Colt’s Custom Shop would be a nice one to add to any collection. Manufactured in 1983, this revolver is a Colt Armory Edition, one of only 500 with 250 finished blue & case color and 250 finished nickel. This example is in Excellent condition, appearing to have spent most its life in the included display case. This limited edition will make a great display in a Colt collection or BBQ gun for the lucky winner. Please see our photos and good luck!
