Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT FRONTIER SIX SHOOTER”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F. A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A.”. The bottom of the barrel is marked “44” in front of the cylinder pin head. The right of the barrel is marked “”COLT COLLECTOR SPECIAL EDITION””. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871 / JULY. 2,72. JAN. 19,75.” and with a rampant colt. The right of the frame is marked “77 OF 250”. The underside of the frame at the grip frame, the left side of the upper and lower grip frame straps (under the left grip) are marked “SA65808”. The front face of the cylinder is marked “5808”, the rear face “44-40”. The left front of the trigger guard is marked with a “VP”, the right rear “K” and the right front is marked “H”. The inside of each grip panel is marked with “77” and “65808”, hand-written.

Barrel Length: 4 3/4”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter-round blade. The rear sight is a square groove in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are two-piece checkered walnut panels with smooth diamonds at their centers, fancy carved borders and silver Colt medallions at their tops. There is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Nickel

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10 out of 10.

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 98% of its metal finish. There are a few scattered minor marks, most notable are a couple of small scratches on the right frame flat at the rear. Otherwise, there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder lockup has barely perceptible play on each chamber. The trigger pull is crisp. This revolver has a fixed cylinder bushing. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This revolver comes in a custom wood presentation case.

Our Assessment: Produced in 1983, this is a beautiful Colt Collector Special Edition Colt Frontier Six Shooter, the same as their iconic Single Action Army, but chambered for Winchester’s popular .44-40 cartridge. Its gorgeous metal finish is set off by its factory deluxe carved and checkered walnut grips. The revolver is in Excellent condition and comes with an attractive display case.
