Assessment:
Introduced in 1931, the Colt Ace was designed as a rimfire training counterpart to the Government Model, allowing shooters to practice with the same ergonomics, trigger, and manual of arms as the .45 ACP 1911 while using affordable .22 LR ammunition. Production resumed after World War II under the Government Model and Mk IV banners, maintaining Colt’s high standards of fit, finish, and accuracy.
This 1979 Colt Ace remains a fine example of the late-production Hartford guns—beautifully blued, tight, and precise, showing the craftsmanship that made Colt’s rimfire pistols so admired. With its three magazines and factory Colt box, it stands as both a superb training piece and a desirable collectible for any serious 1911 or Colt enthusiast. We are no longer offering layaway. KF
