Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .44-40 ”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG CO. / HARTFORD CONN. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked “PAT. SEPT. 19. 1871 . JULY. 72 JAN.19.75”. The bottom of the frame is marked “SA56360”. The left side of the upper and lower grip frame straps (under the left grip) are marked with the matching serial number.

Barrel Length: 4 3/4”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a quarter round blade fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a square groove in the top strap.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are one-piece smooth black ebony wood replacement grips. The grips show minor handling marks, particularly on the right side grip. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in Excellent condition, as replaced.

Type of Finish: Blue & Case Color Frame, Silver-plated backstrap and trigger guard.

Finish Originality: Original / refinished trigger guard & backstrap.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.5/10. 

Overall Condition: This revolver retains about 99% of its metal finish. The silver-plated backstrap is engraved with a rose and leaf motif.  There is limited operational or storage wear. The case color is strong. The screw heads are sharp.  The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. The action locks up tight with very little play. The trigger is crisp. We did not fire this revolver. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army needs little introduction — an icon of late-19th-century American armsmaking that codified the single-action revolver silhouette. This 3rd-generation Colt from 1982 wears the familiar 4 3/4″ barrel and traditional sighting, finished in blue with vivid case coloring that evokes the original Single Action Army 1st Generation revolvers while offering modern manufacturing refinement. It also features an aftermarket engraved backstrap with a floral rose motif.  The silver-plated trigger guard and backstrap have likely been done aftermarket with the replacement of the ebony grips. Chambered in .44-40 WCF, a cartridge born in the era of lever-guns and frontier shooting, this revolver pairs period-correct ballistics with the visual poetry of a correctly proportioned Colt service-style handgun.

Cosmetically and as a catalog piece it presents very well — approximately 99% of the metal finish remains, the case colors are lively, and the bore is excellent at 9.5/10. For an enthusiast seeking a turnkey SAA that reads like a modern homage to the classic, this example is a handsome, well-preserved offering.
