Our Assessment: This Colt 1st Generation Single Action Army revolver presents in Fair to Good overall condition, showing uniform age and wear consistent with its 1906 manufacture. The revolver retains no visible finish, now displaying a soft gray patina with faint oxidation and light pitting scattered throughout. Markings remain legible on both frame and barrel, and all serial numbers match across the frame, trigger guard, and grip frame. The checkered hard rubber grips with Rampant Colt logos are Very Good with handling marks, smoothing from use, and shallow compressions but no cracks. The bore is gray with well-defined rifling and signs of a squib bulge near the muzzle; in this writer’s opinion, it rates 4/10. Mechanics are functional, with correct indexing, moderate play, and a crisp trigger.
As a 1906 C&R-eligible revolver, this .32-20 Colt SAA stands as an authentic example of early 20th-century Colt craftsmanship—produced during the tail end of the blackpowder-to-smokeless transition. The bore bulge indicates a prior squib load, so it should not be fired until professionally inspected and the barrel’s integrity confirmed by a qualified gunsmith. With its matching numbers, patinated frame, and strong mechanical foundation, it remains an evocative and collectible frontier-era sidearm that reflects the enduring appeal of Colt’s iconic Single Action Army design.
