Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “COLT AUTOMATIC / CALIBRE .32 RIMLESS SMOKELESS.” The right side is marked “U.S. PROPERTY.” The left side of the frame is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A. / PATENTED APR. 20, 1897. DEC. 22, 1903.” The right side of the frame is marked with the serial number “GOP1572.” The grips bear the Colt medallions in silver. The box is labeled “1903 Pocket Hammerless .32 ACP General Officer’s Model / 1903 GOP Blued Finish GOP1572.”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a small rounded blade integral to the slide. The rear sight is a square-notch dovetailed into the slide.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered walnut with inset silver Colt medallions. The grips are sharp and show no handling wear, presenting excellent condition with crisp checkering and smooth edges.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion or fouling visible. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains virtually all of its original factory finish. The bluing is deep and even, with only the most minimal signs of handling. The markings are sharp and clear. The screw heads are unmarred and the pins are clean. Overall, the pistol rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions properly with a crisp trigger and positive safety engagement. The slide locks and releases smoothly. The pistol is mechanically sound. We did not fire this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in its original Colt-marked cardboard box with reproduction graphics and paperwork packet, as issued with the modern U.S. Armament-produced series.

Our Assessment: The Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless is one of John M. Browning’s most elegant and enduring designs, introduced in 1903 and serving both civilians and military officers for decades. Beloved for its streamlined form and reliability, it became a standard sidearm for U.S. General Officers during the mid-20th century.

In 2015, U.S. Armament Company faithfully reproduced this historic pistol under license from Colt, reviving the “General Officer’s Model” in .32 ACP with all the correct markings, fit, and finish of the originals. This particular example, serial number GOP1572, exhibits the fine polish, crisp rollmarks, and rich blued finish that made the originals so desirable.

Offered in its reproduction box and showing virtually no evidence of use, this modern production Colt 1903 is an outstanding collector’s piece—both as a functional pistol and a tribute to one of Colt’s most iconic sidearms. We are no longer offering layaway. KF
