Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 75% of its current metal finish. The finish shows edge wear and moderate handling wear throughout. The barrel has lots of operational wear and most of the finish is worn off. There is a faint “idiot mark” under the slide stop on the left of the frame. There is a small ding on the front of the grip. There are scattered scuffs and dings throughout. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Fair to Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger pull is crisp. There is light play between the slide and frame. This pistol has manual and grip safeties. We have not fired this pistol. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: One 7-round post-war magazine, CMP hard case, cable lock, chamber flag, 1964 technical manual, and a CMP certificate of authenticity
Our Assessment: A true U.S. military sidearm with all the purposeful, wartime character expected of a CMP Field Grade release. This Remington Rand shows the straight-forward, utilitarian machining that defined mid-war production: slab-sided slide, parkerized finish tone, small military sights, arched mainspring housing, short trigger, and the crisp, authoritative stance of a genuine service-issue M1911A1. This Field Grade pistol reflects arsenal wear, rack marks, and the honest marks of a sidearm that saw real use — and that lived a long service life before entering the CMP program. The pistol’s cycling, lockup, and external contours read unmistakably “wartime 1911A1,” and the 1943 production date places it squarely in Remington Rand’s highest-output period.
Remington Rand was the largest manufacturer of U.S. military 1911A1 pistols during World War II, producing hundreds of thousands of sidearms that armed soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines across every theater of the conflict. A 1943-dated example represents the heart of America’s wartime industrial surge — a sidearm built fast, built strong, and built to fight. CMP-released pistols like this carry the layered history of government storage, arsenal inspection, and decades of service circulation, making each example a tangible artifact of WWII mobilization and the long military life of the U.S. service pistol.
