Our Assessment: The Colt 1860 Army was one of the most widely used sidearms of the American Civil War, favored for its reliability and power. Issued to Union cavalry regiments and purchased privately by officers, the 1860 Army was a staple on the battlefield. Its streamlined frame and improved balance made it a preferred choice over earlier Dragoon models.
Manufactured in 1862, this revolver is a true wartime piece, possibly seeing service during some of the most pivotal battles of the Civil War. The roll-engraved cylinder scene remains a striking feature, depicting the Second Texas Navy’s victory over the Mexican Navy in 1843. The combination of blue and case-colored steel with a brass grip frame gives this revolver an elegant yet rugged appearance.
For collectors of Colt firearms and Civil War relics, this 1860 Army revolver is a fine example of one of the most iconic percussion revolvers of the 19th century. Whether as a historical centerpiece or an addition to a growing Colt collection, this revolver is a significant and desirable find.
