Additional horn detailing is located behind the trigger guard. A patchbox is built into the right side of the buttstock, adding utility and character. There are two sling swivels—one mounted beneath the barrels and one on the stock belly. The wood shows minor handling wear, with checkering that is still well-defined. There are no cracks or structural issues. The LOP measures approximately 13.75” from the front trigger to the back of the buttplate.
Type of Finish: Silver-finished receiver with engraved panels, blued barrels
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: Both the shotgun and rifle bores are bright and clean with strong rifling and smooth walls. In this writer’s opinion, both bores rate 9/10.
Overall Condition: This gun retains a worn but attractive finish with patina on the blued barrels and even silvering on the engraved receiver. Some screw slots are tool-marked but functional, and the remaining screw heads are sharp. The engraving is crisp and the markings remain fully legible. Overall, this firearm rates in about Good to Very Good condition for a C&R-eligible example.
Mechanics: The action locks up tight. Both hammers cock and release properly, and the French-style forend opener works as intended. The dual triggers break cleanly. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Our Assessment: This Christoph Funk side-by-side combination gun from Suhl is a beautifully built, German-crafted sporting firearm that blends function and artistry. Chambered in 20 gauge and 10.7x52R, it’s ideal for European field hunting—suitable for upland birds and medium game alike. The patchbox, horn accents, Fibonacci scrollwork, and detailed game scene engravings elevate this beyond a working gun—it’s a work of art.
The mechanics are sound, the bores are excellent, and the presentation is striking. For the collector of fine Continental sporting arms, early Suhl craftsmanship, or unique combination guns, this is a rare and desirable piece. So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to take a look at the condition of the item in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
