Our Assessment: This is a four-barreled pepperbox by C. Sharps. Per “Flayderman’s Guide” by Norm Flayderman, this is a Model 2A, chambered for .22 rimfire. Ironically, the production of Sharps’ company primarily focused on large military and hunting rifles and tiny pokcet guns such as this one. These neat little pistols were manufactured by the thousands between 1859 and 1874. They had a very unique design, with a firing pin in the hammer which rotates every time the hammer is cocked, and there were a number of variations in design and production. This Sharps 2A will make a nice display in a collection of early American derringers, pepperboxes and small pocket pistols. Please see our photos and good luck!
