Barrel Length: 30” ported with Vented Broadway Rib.
Choke: Fixed FULL over IMPROVED MODIFIED. According to our choke gauge Full over Improved Cylinder.
Sights / Optics: The front sight was a large white bead affixed to the front of the rib but unfortunately it has snapped off. There is a smaller white mid bead. The wide Broadway rib is finely checkered for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The high grade wood furniture is a two-piece checkered walnut set. We see no evidence this is salt wood. The stock is a checkered semi pistol grip, that has been customized with an adjustable comb, and an adjustable kick-eez butt pad. The forend is a tapered full finger shelf forend. The forend is the Superposed non removable style forend. The LOP measures 14.5” from the trigger to the rear of the butt plate. The cast is about neutral. The shotgun weighs 8lbs 4OZ. The wood shows minor visible crazing in the high gloss finish. The wood shows surface level lines and minor compressions scattered throughout the finish. The edges of the gloss finish where the stock meets the receiver shows some small chips in the gloss. The forend shows a small crack on the rear left side right where the barrels and receiver meet. There are more chips in the gloss finish scattered throughout the stock. The forend shows very little wear with the exception of the crack. The kick eez butt pad is very soft and pliable. Overall the wood is in about Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued barrels and receiver with 18 karat gold inlays.
Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: The smooth bores are very bright with no erosion. There are some barely visible lines from use and barely visible plastic fouling in the forcing cones. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate 9.75/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. The barrels show only a few very minor scattered marks from handling and of course the characteristic rub mark on the bottom barrel from the forend. The receiver shows very little signs of wear or handling other than some very minor finish loss under the safety. The trigger has lost some finish. The top right side of the receiver has a small scratch. The markings are clear, the R.Dewil engraving beautiful and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this shotgun is in about Good+ to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including the ejectors. The shotgun features a single selective mechanical trigger. The forend is the Browning Non removable style forend. There is zero movement between the barrels and frame. The safety does NOT set automatically when the action is opened but functions properly when manually set. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment: This 1974 Browning Superposed Midas Grade Broadway Trap is a premier example of Browning’s high-grade craftsmanship during the final years of Belgian production. This shotgun features 32-inch barrels originally choked Full over IM now FULL over Improved Cylinder, with a finely checkered Broadway rib originally topped by a large white front bead and smaller mid-bead for precise sight alignment. The action is masterfully engraved by R. Dewil, showcasing detailed scrollwork accented with 18-karat gold inlays of pheasants, ducks, and a grouse. Gold plating was originally on the firing pin tips, and remains on the ejector rods, and the trigger further enhancing the gun’s luxurious presentation.
Its stock set is crafted from grade 6 walnut, exhibiting a rich figure with sharp checkering, a semi-pistol grip, and an adjustable comb and butt plate for optimal handling in trap shooting. The tapered full finger shelf forend complements the elegant yet functional design. This combination of master engraving, precious metal accents, and premium wood places the Midas Grade Broadway Trap at the top tier of collectible and shootable over-under shotguns, truly this is a usable work of art that also breaks clays.
