Our Assessment: The Browning SA-22 is one of the most refined rimfire rifles ever produced, and this Grade II variant chambered in .22 Short is a particularly desirable configuration. Introduced in the early 20th century and still produced today, the SA-22 reflects John Browning’s genius for combining elegance with function. This Grade II takedown model was made by Miroku in Japan, who have maintained Browning’s high standards for fit, finish, and craftsmanship.
Chambered in .22 Short—a cartridge favored for gallery shooting, pest control, and quiet backyard plinking—this rifle offers a softer report and less recoil than its .22 LR counterpart. The bottom-ejecting design and under-bolt charging handle give it a uniquely streamlined profile, while the takedown feature makes for effortless transport and maintenance. With exquisite checkered walnut furniture, clean engraving on the satin-finished receiver, and an immaculate bore, this rifle shows little to no use.
Collectors and shooters alike will appreciate the rarity of the .22 Short chambering, the Grade II embellishments, and the condition of this piece. Whether you’re looking for a refined shooter, a low-recoil pest rifle, or a beautiful rimfire for your collection, this SA-22 checks all the boxes. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
