Type of Finish / Finish Originality: Blued barrel and receiver. The finish appears original. Overall retention is strong with only minor handling marks and very light edge wear around the receiver and barrel shroud. In this writer’s opinion, the rifle retains approximately 94% of its original finish.

Bore Condition: 9/10 with stubborn fouling in the bore, semi-bright, sharp. Evidence suggests the rifle has likely seen only a couple of hunts, but it has been properly cared for and remains ready for a new shooter behind the sights.

Overall Condition: Very Good to Excellent overall for a mid-century sporting rifle. The wood is sound with light, expected handling wear. The metal surfaces retain the majority of their blue with only minor marks and faint storage wear. Matching numbers are present on the receiver and barrel.

Mechanics: The bolt cycles smoothly, and the feeding and extractor geometry appear intact. This rifle is assumed to be in full functioning order; as with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: This Browning High Power sporting rifle, produced by FN Herstal for Browning, represents the best of the mid-20th century FN/Browning collaboration. Chambered in the classic .375 H&H Magnum and fitted with a 24″ barrel, it was designed with serious hunters in mind, delivering a stout and reliable commercial sporting action.

Unlike surplus Mauser conversions, this FN-built rifle carries the refinements of a factory Browning sporting arm, including the FN monogram, fine checkering, and quality Belgian craftsmanship. The folding express rear sight and hooded ramp front are well-suited for both brush and mountain hunting, while the Monte Carlo comb and balanced stock design provide comfortable handling with a heavy cartridge.

For the buyer, this rifle is equally practical and collectible. It would be at home in the field on a dangerous game hunt or as a standout piece in a Browning/FN collection. Properly maintained, it will continue to serve reliably as a powerful and elegant big-game rifle. So bid high and bid firm. I highly encourage you to take a look at the condition of the revolver in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
