Our Assessment: This Browning Hi-Power C-Series pistol, manufactured in Belgium in 1976, is a superb example of one of the most iconic and influential semi-automatic handguns of the 20th century. Designed by John Browning and completed by Dieudonné Saive at FN, the Hi-Power was among the first double-stack 9mm pistols, offering high capacity, excellent ergonomics, and outstanding reliability. The C-Series, produced during Browning’s golden era of commercial production, is especially prized for its high polish blue finish, clean lines, and classic walnut grips. This example is in Excellent condition, retaining about 99% of its factory-polished blue finish with only faint signs of handling. The bore is bright with sharp rifling, rating 9.5/10, and the mechanics are smooth and crisp. The serial number is correctly matched across the slide, barrel, and frame, and the pistol bears the expected Belgian proofs. The checkered walnut grips are equally impressive—clean and sharply defined, with no chips or cracks. The sliding tangent rear sight, adjustable to 500 meters, is a hallmark of early Hi-Power military and commercial models, adding both collectible and functional value.

For collectors of classic handguns, fans of FN craftsmanship, or anyone seeking a historically significant 9mm, this 1976 Browning Hi-Power is a standout. Its beautiful condition, correct features, and C&R eligibility make it a valuable addition to any firearms collection. Whether displayed, preserved, or carefully fired, this pistol represents the pinnacle of postwar European pistol design and a timeless piece of firearm history. -R.E.
