Markings: The frame is marked, “BROWNING” on the bottom with the serial number under the brake lever. The forend is marked, “01416” The right side of the barrels are marked, “B-S/S SPECIAL STEEL 12GA. SHELLS – 2 ¾” AND 3” / BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN JAPAN” The barrel flats are marked, “01416” with nitro proofing and other small proof marks. There is engraving throughout.

Choke: Fixed. FULL left, MODIFIED right.
Sights/Optics: There is a brass bead at the front of the serrated barrel rib.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with beavertail forend, straight wrist, straight fluted comb, and synthetic Browning buttplate. There are light scratches and pressure dents throughout. The checkering is sharp. A few peaks on the forend have chipped off. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. Overall, the stocks rate in about Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: Both bores are bright with no erosion. There is light fouling in the bores. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate at a 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling and storage wear. There are light scratches. The blue finish is strong throughout. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lock up is tight with no play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork, and Accessories: This shotgun comes with a browning leather case with felt lining, key, and owners manual.
Our Assessment: This Browning B-S/S side-by-side was manufactured for Browning in Japan in 1981 and carries the high-quality fit and finish expected of Browning’s export line of the era. The gun’s engraved frame, serrated rib, and dual-choke configuration (full left, modified right) are consistent with a modern sporting side-by-side built for both presentation and dependable function, and the factory flats and barrel markings confirm its origin and proofing.
Cosmetically and mechanically this example is excellent: the metal retains about 98% of its finish, the stocks are in excellent condition with sharp checkering, and both bores are bright with no erosion (bore rating 9/10). The action locks up tight with no play, the ejectors function, and the gun includes its Browning leather case, key, and owner’s manual. We are no longer offering layaway.
