Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked, “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN JAPAN”. The right side of the barrel “ INVECTOR BPS SPECIAL STEEL 10GA-3 1/2” FIELD MODEL”. The right side of the receiver has the serial number. Both sides of the receiver are engraved with hunting scenes.
Barrel Length: 26″ Ribbed.
Choke: Invector Screw in chokes. Modified is installed. Two Full Chokes come with the gun.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a metallic bead. The top of both receiver and barrel are serrated for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is two piece checkered wood with semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, and checkered soft rubber Browning buttpad. The pump grip is checkered with finger grooves. The LOP measures 14.25” front the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate. There are just a few scratches, most of which should be visible in the photos. The checkering is still sharp. There is no finish loss. Overall the stocks are in Fine to Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. There are just a few scratches and handling marks. The mag tube shows some operational wear. There is a single ½” corrosion spot on the vent rib at mid-barrel. The screw heads are sharp and pins are unmarred. The markings are clear. Overall this shotgun is in Fine to Excellent Condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun includes a manual, a choke wrench, and two additional Full chokes.
Our Assessment: The Browning BPS (Browning Pump Shotgun) in 10 Gauge is a specialty goose-slayer…and a very good one. Its receiver is precision machined from a solid block of forged steel. It is a true ambidextrous shotgun, with its bottom ejection and top-tang safety. It has two forged action bars, making it tough. And the Invector Choke system allows it to be optimized for any range the geese are offering.
As an engineer friend of this writer likes to say, “Nothing’s free.” And he is right — in this case the price paid is a 9lb, 12oz shotgun to carry. But what a payload this will deliver. Two ounces of lead (maybe more) if you are turkey hunting and at least 1 5/8oz of steel in pursuit of geese. Properly choked, and if the shooter does his part, this will reach way out there. And if your calling is as shaky as this gun writer’s — that might come in handy.
This beauty does not appear to have been to the field too often. She is still in great shape. Tastefully engraved, but with a lethal capability, this gun would grace the gun safe of a serious goose hunter — or even an aspiring one. Please see our photos. – C.B.
