Our Assessment: This 1962 Browning SA-22 Grade II is a beautifully preserved example of the early Belgian-made takedown rifles that earned worldwide acclaim for their quality and craftsmanship. Built in the FN Herstal factory, this semi-automatic .22 LR rifle features Grade II engraving on the coin-finished receiver and is stocked with finely checkered select walnut. The fit and finish of these early examples is exceptional, and this one is no exception—retaining about 99% of its original finish with crisp checkering, sharp markings, and only minor signs of age-related handling. The takedown design adds portability while maintaining rigidity, and the slender profile and bottom-ejection make this one of the most elegant rimfires ever produced.

The inclusion of its factory serial-matching box elevates its collectibility, making it especially desirable for Browning collectors or fans of fine sporting arms. Whether destined for display or light field use, this rifle offers both aesthetic appeal and mechanical precision. With its clean bore, excellent mechanical function, and factory-original condition, this SA-22 Grade II represents a peak in mid-century rimfire rifle production—timeless in both form and function.
