Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 98% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light handling and storage wear, with a few superficial hairline scratches in the metal surfaces. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings and engravings are all clear and legible. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the cross-bolt safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the Leupold scope as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: Browning’s BAR Mark II Safari represents the natural evolution of the original Belgian BAR High Power line—retaining the same elegant lines, Grade I engraving, and magnum-capable gas system while incorporating the refinements Browning implemented in the 1990s to improve reliability, durability, and shooter comfort. By 1994, when this rifle was produced, the Mark II Safari had become the flagship configuration for hunters who wanted classic European styling paired with modern semi-automatic performance. The Belgian-made, Portugal-assembled construction reflects Browning’s transitional manufacturing era while preserving the high-polish bluing and tight stock-to-metal fit that defined the series.

Chambered in .338 Winchester Magnum, this rifle sits firmly in the large-game class. Since its introduction in 1958, the .338 Win. Mag. has been a premier cartridge for elk, moose, and heavy-bodied North American game thanks to its deep penetration, retained energy, and excellent performance at longer distances. In the BAR platform and with a 24″ barrel, recoil becomes notably more manageable, cycling remains smooth, and the rifle delivers the authoritative power and accuracy that made the Mark II Safari a trusted companion in difficult terrain.

This example shows about 98% original finish with only light handling marks, a mirror-bright 10/10 bore, and crisp factory engraving that stands out cleanly against the deep bluing. The checkered walnut stocks present beautifully, showing only minor storage marks and maintaining strong gloss and tight fitment. The mounted Leupold Vari-X III 3–9× optic, clean and clear, adds immediate field utility and underscores the rifle’s premium sporting pedigree.

Altogether, this is a finely preserved, highly capable magnum autoloader from Browning’s golden transitional period—elegant, accurate, powerful, and ready for the rack or the field. Please check out our high quality photos, and good luck on your bids! – J.D.
