Markings: The upper tang is marked “R38713S DIAMOND PIGEON”. The left side of the receiver is marked “Beretta”. The trigger plate is marked “PATENTED” and is signed “Bottega C. Giovanelli”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “MADE IN ITALY / Beretta / 687EELL”. There are a few proofs on the watertable. The right side of the receiver is marked “Beretta”. The butt pad is marked “P.BERETTA”. All sides of the receiver, the lever, trigger guard, tang, and screws are beautifully engraved with floral engraving while the sides of the receiver display different fowl scenes.

28 Gauge Barrel set: is marked “28 GA. 2 ¾ -70-28” Beretta-Made In Italy / GARDONE VT / EXCELSIOR-HIGH STRENGTH ALLOYED STEEL / KGI. 180 13.9 / 813229 / R38713S / Beretta USA CORP ACKK, MD WARNING-READ INSTRUCTION BOOK FOR SAFE OPERATION BOOK FREE FROM BERETTA” and the date code “CC”. The top of the barrel set and the bottom of the forend both have gold inlay “2” on them.
Barrel Length: Both barrel sets are 28” in length.
Choke: The barrels are threaded for Beretta Mobil chokes. The 28 Gauge barrel set is currently installed with Improved Modified over Modified also includes FULL, IC, and Cylinder in their storage tubes.
The 20 Gauge set currently installed with MODified over Cylinder also includes FULL, Improved MOD, and IC in their storage tubes.
Sights / Optics: Both Barrel sets have a small silver bead mounted to the front of the rib. Both ribs are finely checkered for the purpose of reducing glare.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The furniture set is a two-piece checkered select walnut with traditional slab side round profile forends and a semi pistol grip, fluted straight comb, thin wrist, palm swelled stock with a Beretta rubber butt pad. The length of pull is 14.5”, the drop at comb 1.5” and the drop at heel is 2”. The cast is right handed. The shotgun with the 20 gauge barrel set weighs 6lbs 5OZ, The 28 gauge set weighs 6lbs 9OZ. The stock shows some minor handling with no notable marks or marrs. There are no chips or cracks. The butt pad is pliable and shows very little wear. Both friends are in similar condition showing only minor handling with no notable marks or marrs and no chips or cracks. Overall all the wood is in Excellent to Excellent+ condition.
Type of Finish: Blued and French Gray.
Finish Originality: Original.
Bore Condition: All four smooth bores are mirror bright. There is no erosion or pitting in the bores. The bores show minor lines from use and minor plastic fouling in the forcing cones. This should be easily removed with a proper cleaning. In this writer’s opinion the bores rate 9.75/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains approximately 99% of its metal finish. The receiver shows almost no signs of wear. The coin finished areas of the receiver and forends show some minor tarnish from old oil with some barely visible oxidation in the recesses of the edges. The barrel sets show very minor wear that is mostly concealed when assembled. There are a few faint marks on the barrel sets as well, none being particularly notable. The engraving is beautiful to see in person. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. The gold trigger retains its finish. Overall, this shotgun is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The action locks up tight with no play. The safety does set automatically and functions properly when set manually. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun includes the chokes as mentioned above, gun socks, thick butt pad, 20 Gauge choke wrench, multi tool, oil, Keys, paperwork and a AMERICASE lockable case.
