Markings: The top tang is marked “C70446B”. The water table is marked with Italian proofs. The bottom of the receiver is marked “P. BERETTA / GARDONE”, “MADE IN ITALY” and “Mod. S686 SPECIAL”. The trigger plate is marked “PATENTED”. The receiver has foliate scroll engraving that is continued on the guard, lever, and forend iron. The sides of the receiver are also marked “P. BERETTA”. The left lip of the receiver is marked “PB” and the right “CAL. 12”. The left of the top barrel is marked “P. Beretta – Gardone V.T. – ITALY” followed by the “PB” logo and “12GA. 2 ¾ IN. – 28 INCHES F/M”. The right of the top barrel is marked with “BERBEN CORPORATION N.Y.-N.Y. / MADE IN ITALY”. Below the forend, the left of each barrel is marked with Italian proofs, the bottom barrel also has “-EXCELSIOR- HIGH STRENGTH ALLOYED STEEL – CAL. 12”. The monoblock is marked with the serial number, Italian proofs and “AF” in box date code. The bottom of the bottom barrel is marked “BB”. The forend iron is marked “70446”.

Choke: The barrels have been threaded for chokes and are installed with Full over Improved Modified.
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a white bead in a base at the front of the rib. There is a white midbead that has been compressed and is recessed into the rib, no longer able to be used as an alignment aid. The rib is checkered for glare reduction
Weight: 7 lb. 6 oz.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with a pistol grip, monte carlo comb, and a brown rubber Beretta buttpad. The buttstock has been modified and had two pieces of wood added to create a monte carlo comb. There is a wood pin at the front of the comb. There is a tiny hairline crack at the top tang. There are some scattered little marks and draglines. There are a few scuffs through the finish, most noticeable on the sides of the forend. The checkering is strong with some light rub wear. The LOP measures 14 1/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad and 13 1/2” to the wood. The drop at comb measures approximately 1 3/8” and 1 1/2” at the rear of the monte carlo comb. The cast is neutral. The pad has scattered wear but has remained supple. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good-Fine condition as modified

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bores but there are a few spots of stubborn fouling.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains approximately 95% of its metal finish. There are a few light scuffs and there is some thinning at the muzzle. The barrel lever and forend latch have turned plum. There are some little scratches and scuffs on the trigger guard with thinning on the edges. There is some light operational wear. There are a couple little dings, most noticeable on the bottom of the lower barrel. The midbead on the rib has been compressed into the rib. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The action locks up tight with no play. The safety does not engage automatically when opening the action but functions properly when manually set. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: .Included is a Beretta hard case, a Full choke, and a Modified choke. The case has some scattered scuffs and a few scrapes, in about Fine condition.
Our Assessment: This Beretta 686 Special in 12 gauge that has a 28” barrel set with removable chokes. Chambered for 12 gauge with a 28? barrel and capable of accepting a variety of chokes, this is a versatile gun that will be suitable for upland birds and challenging yourself on the Skeet fields. This shotgun is in Fine condition with signs of light use. This is a well made Italian double gun made by one of the best, it will serve its new owner well for years to come.
