Our Assessment: The Beretta M9 is a semi-automatic pistol that became the standard sidearm of the United States Armed Forces in 1985, replacing the venerable M1911A1. Designed and manufactured by the Italian company Beretta, the M9 is based on the Beretta 92 series, which was introduced in the 1970s. The M9 is chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum and is known for its double-action/single-action operation, standard 15-round magazine capacity, and a design that emphasizes reliability, ease of use, and maintenance. The history of the M9 began in the late 1970s and early 1980s when the U.S. military sought to standardize its sidearm across all branches and replace the aging M1911A1, which had been in service since World War I. The military wanted a more modern, higher-capacity pistol that used the NATO-standard 9mm cartridge. Beretta entered its 92 series design into the trials. In 1985, after extensive testing, the Beretta 92F was selected as the winner due to its performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness. It was adopted as the M9 pistol. This example is a commemorative United States Marine Corp Edition of the commercial production of the M9 with the USMC edition box, aluminum grips, and special markings. I have to say if you are a Beretta fan and have not seen these grips or felt these grips in person you definitely should!
