Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “BENELLI ARMI S.P.A. – URBINO – MADE IN ITALY”. The right side of the barrel is marked “20 GA. 3” – FOR 2 3/4″ OR 3” SHELLS / READ OWNER’S MANUAL BEFORE USING GUN”. The left side of the receiver is marked “20 GA – MONTEFELTRO SUPER 90-BENELLI-ITALY”, along with a series of proofs, import marks, and the “BI” date code. The right side of the receiver is marked “HECKLER & KOCH, INC. – STERLING, VA. – MADE IN ITALY / N024435”. The bolt is marked “BENELLI ARMI SYSTEM”. 

Barrel Length: 26” Vent Rib

Choke: This shotgun is set up for the Beretta/Benelli Mobilchoke system. Currently installed in the barrel is an Improved Cylinder choke. This shotgun does not come with any other choke tubes, other than the Improved Cylinder choke that is currently installed in the barrel. 

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a red fiber optic bead at the front of the barrel on top of the vent rib. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered walnut stock set, with a traditional pistol grip, fluted straight comb, vented rubber buttpad, and a checkered forend with finger grooves. The LOP measures 14 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stocks show light handling wear, with only a couple of minor scratches scattered throughout the buttstock. The checkering is well defined, with sharp peaks. The stock’s finish is strong throughout. The stocks fit tightly to the frame, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Excellent condition. 

Type of Finish: Blued, Black

Finish Originality: 

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10. 

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows only minor superficial handling wear. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The pins are unmarred. Overall, this shotgun rates in Excellent condition. 

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the cross-bolt safety. We have not fired this shotgun, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.   

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes with the one Improved Cylinder choke tube, as mentioned above. 

Our Assessment: Benelli’s Montefeltro Super 90 represents the elegant, lightweight side of the company’s inertia-driven lineup—a trim, fast-handling semi-auto built for upland fields, timbered edges, and long days where every ounce matters. By 1997, when this 20-gauge example was produced, Benelli had fully refined its recoil-operated system, creating a shotgun that was noticeably cleaner running, quicker cycling, and more maintenance-friendly than many of its gas-operated contemporaries. The Montefeltro’s slender forend, sculpted walnut, and deep blue metalwork speak to a classic aesthetic wrapped around thoroughly modern internals.

The 20-gauge chambering, with 3″ capability, gives this shotgun both versatility and finesse. Light, fast loads remain soft and lively for upland birds, while heavier 3″ shells offer genuine power for pheasant, turkey, or small game when needed. In this example the bore is mirror-bright (10/10), the metal retains about 99% original finish, and the walnut stock set is in Excellent condition with only minimal handling marks—remarkable for a shotgun now more than a quarter-century old. The Mobilchoke-compatible barrel currently carries an Improved Cylinder choke tube, making it well suited for most upland scenarios straight out of the case.

Altogether, this Montefeltro Super 90 is a beautifully preserved, smooth-cycling, lightweight field gun from one of the most respected names in shotguns.
