Engraving: The entire gun is heavily after-market engraved with what can only be described as a Louisiana swamp motif. The barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard, ejector housing are all fully engraved with deep relief scroll work. It’s hard to imagine what prompted someone to export the gun to Belgium and then have it engraved with swamp scenes! Please see our photos for more details of the engraving.

Overall Condition: The balance of the finish shows mild operation wear. The cylinder has a light turn line that is crisp. There are no carbon rings on the cylinder. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. However, the cylinder release is very stiff. The cylinder lockup has almost no play on each of the six chambers. The double-action trigger is light and smooth and the single-action is light and very crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Revolver comes with black plastic case.
Our Assessment: If there were ever a gun that could talk, this is one that you would want to hear its story. We are affectionately referring to this engraved Smith & Wesson as a Swamp People BBQ Gun! “CHOOT ‘EM!!! The aftermarket engraving is exceptionally well done but we are confused as to why this style of engraving was done in Belgium of all places!
This engraved Smith & Wesson Model 624 is unquestionably a unique, one-of-a-kind item! Introduced in the mid-1980s, the Model 624 represented Smith & Wesson’s stainless steel return to the classic .44 S&W Special on the N-frame, pairing modern metallurgy with a cartridge long celebrated for its accuracy, smooth recoil impulse, and practical shootability. The factory 3-inch configuration is itself highly desirable, offering excellent balance and handling in a compact N-frame format that was produced in comparatively limited numbers.
What elevates this revolver far beyond a standard Model 624 is its documented European detour and extraordinary aftermarket engraving. Exported to Belgium in 1985, as evidenced by the Belgian proof marks and the script “X” date mark under the ejector housing, this revolver was subsequently transformed by an engraver whose artistic vision is anything but conventional. The deep relief scrollwork covering nearly every surface is complemented by bold gold inlays depicting alligators, bald eagles, and black vultures, forming a vivid Louisiana swamp motif that feels wholly out of place for a revolver engraved in Belgium. The removal of factory rollmarks to accommodate the engraving, along with gold reapplication of model and caliber designations, further underscores the extent and intent of this bespoke work.
Condition and mechanical quality remain excellent beneath the artistic embellishment. The bore is mirror bright with sharp rifling, the action is exceptionally smooth in both double and single action, and lockup is tight across all chambers. The light cylinder turn line and absence of carbon rings suggest careful handling, and the smooth wood grips complement the revolver’s bold visual character without distraction. Taken as a whole, this Model 624 stands as a one-of-a-kind conversation piece, blending classic Smith & Wesson performance with an utterly unexpected artistic narrative that defies easy explanation and invites imagination.
