Our Assessment: As the first shoulder-fired semi-automatic 50 BMG rifle, this rifle has delivered five of the 20 longest sniper kills in history… even if the gun is technically not meant to be a sniper rifle. The Barret M82 was originally adopted into the U.S. military to “smash stuff.” Think knocking out radar dishes and disabling vehicle engines. This is the most “anti-material” semi-auto you could imagine. But now this firearm is known for its long range accuracy and power. The massive muzzle break and excellent internal engineering and the rifle’s nearly 30lbs of metal and polymer means you get a very shootable system. The M82A1 was introduced with a redesigned muzzle brake and the M82A1M earned a lengthened accessory rail with a rear grip that can take a monopod. So, if you’re looking to challenge yourself and up your accuracy game, this is the gun for you. If you’ve ever wanted to explode a pumpkin from almost a mile away (and who wouldn’t want to do that?), this is the gun for you. For the sake of time and space, we’ll end the assessment here even though we could write pages of good things about this impressive setup. Bid on it, win it, love it. Lean into the exclusivity of this firearm, one that everyone needs to shoot, but only a few can have.
