Our Assessment: Barrett’s Fieldcraft rifles were a significant departure from the company’s usual reputation for large, heavy, military-grade firearms. Introduced in 2016, based off of Melvin Forbes’ action and design for New Ultra Light Arms (NULA), the Fieldcraft line was built with the hunter in mind, offering an ultralight, precision bolt-action rifle in a variety of calibers. At under 6 pounds, the Fieldcraft was designed for backcountry hunters needing a rifle that could be carried all day over rough terrain without sacrificing accuracy. Barrett achieved this with a hand-laid carbon fiber stock, stainless steel action and barrel, and an emphasis on minimal but durable construction.
This example is chambered in 6mm Creedmoor, a cartridge well-regarded for its flat trajectory, mild recoil, and excellent long-range performance, making it equally suitable for precision target shooting and medium game hunting. With its 22-inch barrel, light carbon fiber stock, and crisp, light trigger, this rifle was designed for accuracy in the field, while being portable enough for extended hunts. The bore remains pristine, rating 10/10, showing that the rifle has seen little to no use. Its stainless finish, clean stock, and tight action all point to an extremely well-preserved example.
The Barrett Fieldcraft line was discontinued in 2020, and since then, these rifles have gained increased interest from both hunters and collectors. Their combination of lightweight design, premium components, and limited production makes them a standout in the modern hunting rifle market. This particular rifle, in 6mm Creedmoor with optics-ready picatinny rail and sling included, offers both practicality for the serious hunter and collectability as one of Barrett’s most refined sporting arms. For those who want a premium, ultra-light hunting rifle with a touch of rarity, this Fieldcraft would be a top-tier choice.
