Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece high gloss checkered walnut with straight grip, straight comb and black plastic buttplate. The wood has dispersed nicks, compressions, and draglines, the most notable on the bottom rear of the forearm. The finish has lost some of its glossiness on the rear sides. There are no chips or cracks. The checkering is sharp. The LOP measures 13 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate, which shows light wear along the edges. The stocks are in about Very Good-Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are some freckles of light surface oxidation on the sides of the receiver. There are some infrequently dispersed faint marks on the barrel and magazine tube, otherwise there are only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine-Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a cross bolt safety behind the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: The Browning BAR 22 rifle was produced starting in 1977 and was discontinued in 1985. This rifle was made in the first year of production, 1977, and is in Fine-Plus condition appearing to have been well maintained. With a similar shaped receiver to their center-fire BAR line, this would make a great addition to a collection which already has a BAR. Please see our photos and good luck!
