Our Assessment:  The Auto-Ordnance 1927 A1 is a captivating reproduction of the iconic Thompson submachine gun, colloquially known as the “Tommy Gun.” Originally designed during World War I by General John T. Thompson, the Thompson gained notoriety during the Prohibition era and saw extensive use in World War II. The 1927 A1 version, however, is a semi-automatic civilian variant chambered in .45 ACP, a cartridge well-known for its stopping power.

Built with meticulous attention to detail, the 1927 A1 features a blued steel receiver, a fixed buttstock made of high-quality wood, and adjustable iron sights. The side-mounted charging handle and horizontal foregrip add to its authentic appearance and functionality. Despite being a semi-automatic version of its fully automatic counterpart, the 1927 A1 maintains much of the original’s heft and feel, offering a satisfying shooting experience. The firearm operates on a simple blowback mechanism, which contributes to its ease of maintenance and reliability.

In summary, the Auto-Ordnance 1927 A1 is more than just a firearm; it’s a piece of American history and culture. With its roots extending back to some of the most pivotal periods in the 20th century, owning one is akin to possessing a tangible link to the past. Whether you’re an enthusiast of historical firearms, a collector, or a recreational shooter, the 1927 A1 offers a unique opportunity to experience the allure and craftsmanship of a bygone era. Its distinctive design, historical significance, and effective caliber make it a memorable and compelling piece for anyone interested in iconic firearms.  Please see our photos for a better understanding of condition and good luck bidding!
