Our Assessment: The IMI Galil Model 329 is a semi-automatic, civilian-legal version of Israel’s iconic battle rifle, chambered in .308 Winchester (7.62 NATO). Designed in the late 1960s and adopted in the early 1970s, the Galil was developed to provide the Israeli Defense Forces with a reliable, modern, and rugged service rifle influenced by the AK-47, Valmet RK62, and the FN FAL. The Model 329, imported by Action Arms Ltd., retains the Galil’s hallmark features: long-stroke gas piston operation, side-folding tubular stock, robust milled receiver, and a distinctive forward-folding charging handle. In .308, the Galil offers excellent downrange performance with the same rugged reliability the platform is known for. This example is in Very Good condition, retaining about 97% of its original finish with only light handling marks throughout. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and light fouling only, rating 9/10 in this writer’s opinion. The matching rear sight base is a bonus, and the receiver bears the correct AAL import markings along with Israeli proofs. It’s fitted with an integral Picatinny rail mount for optics, and the rifle retains its original flip-up tritium night sights—though the tritium is now inert. The polymer handguard and pistol grip are clean, and the right-side folding stock locks up tightly with minor finish wear. Included is one 20-round magazine in excellent condition.
Civilian IMI Galils in .308 are both desirable and increasingly rare, particularly those in clean, matching condition with Action Arms import markings. For collectors of Israeli arms, Cold War-era battle rifles, or anyone seeking a rugged .308 semi-auto with historic military lineage, this Galil Model 329 checks all the boxes. It’s a battle-proven design, expertly built, and ready to serve in any collection or range rotation. -R.E.
