Markings: Both sides of the receiver are marked with “STERLINGWORTH”. The left barrel is marked with “MADE BY A.H.FOX GUN CO. PHILA. PA.U.S.A” and the right barrel is marked “STERLINGWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL”.  The lower tang is marked “361665” as well as the receiver, forend, and barrel.

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a forward bead sight. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks two piece hand checkered wood with straight comb, corrugated buttplate, and checkered splinter forend. The LOP measures 12.25” and 13.25” from the front of the triggers respectively to the rear back of the buttplate. The stocks rate an Excellent overall condition. There are a few compression marks throughout but the stocks remain clean.  The checkering, though no longer sharp, is still well defined.

Type of Finish: Blue

Finish Originality: Original 

Bore Condition: The bores are very bright.There is no erosion in the bore.  In this writer’s opinion the bores rate about 9/10. 

Overall Condition:  This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows very little handling wear. There are a few scratches but they are very faint. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions as intended. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.   

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Hard leather case. 

Our Assessment: This 1926 A.H. Fox Sterlingworth is a fine example of one of America’s most respected field-grade doubles, chambered in 16 gauge with 25” barrels choked Improved. Built with the classic break-action, double-trigger system and marked “STERLINGWORTH” on both sides of the receiver, it retains matching serial numbers on the receiver, barrels, forend, and lower tang. The barrels are marked with the A.H. Fox Gun Co. Philadelphia address and “STERLINGWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL,” a hallmark of the model’s reputation for durability and quality.

Condition is Excellent overall, with about 98% of the original blue remaining, only faint handling marks, and crisp markings. The walnut stock set shows a few light compression marks but remains clean, with well-defined checkering and a corrugated buttplate. The bores are bright with no erosion, rating 9/10, and the mechanics function as intended. Complete with a hard leather case, this C&R-eligible Sterlingworth combines collectible appeal with field-ready performance, making it a desirable addition for both shooters and American shotgun enthusiasts.
