Markings: The receiver heel is marked “US RIFLE M1A / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY / 217375”. The op rod is marked “SOCOM II”. The bolt is marked “7790186-SA / F00183”. The left of the rail is marked with a VLTOR logo and a Springfield Armory logo. The left of the combination light/laser is marked “SUREFIRE / A02422”, “DANGER” in oaval and “AVOID DIRECT EYE / EXPOSURE TO BEAM”. The right is marked “X400 / WEAPON LIGHT” and with another warning about exposure to eyes. There is a ring at the objective end of the scope marked “LEUPOLD MARK 4 1.5-5X20mm MR/T” twice. The left of the turret housing is marked “LEUPOLD”, the bottom is marked “258755T”.

Barrel Length: 16 1/4″, approximately 17 3/4″ to the end of the installed muzzle brake.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a bladed post set between 2 protective ears with a vertical white aiming reference. The rear sight is a fully adjustable “ghost ring” aperture. The forend’s top rail extends back to the receiver where it is mounted to the stripper clip-guide dovetail. There are QD rings holding the Leupold Mark 4 1.5-5x20mm MR/T scope. The scope has very clear glass and the body has only light handling marks. The scope is in about Fine-plus condition. The scope has Leupold-branded Butler Creek flip-up lense caps. The rear cap has broken at its hinge but still clips in place. The scope has Leupold’s Special Purpose illuminated reticle. The battery is not dead and the reticle still illuminates red at 8 different intensity settings with an off position between each. The Surefire X400 light/laser has scattered light marks with some discoloration on the light lense, the laser functions in the laser-only position and in the light/laser position, but the light only functions in the light-only position and is very sensitive to the position of the selector, in about Fair-Good condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece black synthetic with flip-up buttplate, storage compartment in the butt and VLTOR quad rail handguard. The stock and handguard have only a few scattered light scuffs and the rail sections have a couple of spots of light wear from previously installed accessories. The LOP measures 13 1/8 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The stock is in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is light wear and scuffing on the gas block and on the top of the receiver between the optic rail and the rear sight. The bolt and op-rod show light operational wear. The screw heads are intact. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with the installed scope, handguard and Surefire X400 light/laser as described. Please note, this rifle does not come with a magazine.

Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1A SOCOM II is in Fine condition. It comes with some nice accessories that make this quite the tactical package. It comes with an fantastic Leupold 1.5-5x scope, a Surefire light/laser and the standard SOCOM II VLTOR quad rail for mounting other accessories as needed. The SOCOM rifles have a similar operating system as the M1A or M14, but with shorter 16 1/4″ barrels, making them easier to handle in closer quarters or transport in vehicles. Firing the .308 Winchester of 7.62 NATO cartridge, ammunition should be easy to find and will hit a little harder than something like a 5.56mm or 7.62×39. While the quad rail adds some significant weight, it can always be removed and you can use the iron sights or install a traditional M1A scope mount. This is a pretty versatile rifle that can be configured for a variety of purposes to suit your needs. Please see our photos and good luck!
