Markings: The top tang is marked “E16894B”, the bottom of the receiver is marked “GARDONE VT / ITALY” and “P. Beretta”, “P. Beretta” is also marked on each side of the receiver. The receiver has extensive scroll and floral engraving with a duck scene on the left lockplate, a grouse scene on the right and a woodcock scene on the bottom. The trigger plate is marked “PATENTED / Mod. 687 EELL / Bottega C. Giovanelli”. The bottom of the trigger guard has scroll/floral engraving as does the top of the lever. The top of the forend iron is marked “16894”, the exterior of the forend iron has floral engraving. The left of the top barrel is marked “P. Beretta-Gardone V.T.-ITALY-” and with “PB” in oval and at the chamber with “20 GA. 3 IN. – 26 INCHES M/IC”. The left of the top barrel below the top of the forend is marked “CAM 76” and “15.9” next to three punch marks (Modified Choke Marking). The left of the bottom barrel is marked “EXCELSIOR-HIGH STRENGTH ALLOYED STEEL / KG0.990”, “15.8” and with four punch marks (Improved Cylinder Choke Marking), the bottom of the bottom barrel is marked “BB-7M”. The bottom of the monoblock is marked “E16894B” with three proof marks and “AN” date code. The right of the top barrel at the chamber is marked “BERBEN CORPORATION N.Y.-N.Y. / MADE IN ITALY”.

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a steel bead at the front of the ventilated rib. The top of the rib is checkered to reduce glare.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered select walnut with finger grooves on the top of the forend, straight grip, straight comb, serrated walnut buttplate and an unmarked brass plate inlet to the toe-line. The stocks have a few scattered light compressions. There are small chips in the forend wood on top where it meets the receiver (likely from improper assembly, easily overlooked). No cracks. The checkering is slightly smoothed from handling but well defined and without mars. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The drop at comb is about 1 3/8″, drop at heel is about 2 1/4″. The cast is about neutral. The buttplate has a couple of light marks at the heel, a few light marks at the toe and no chips or cracks, in about Fine condition. The stocks rate in about Fine-Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion in the bores.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. There is very light wear on the bottom of the barrels from the forend, otherwise there is no notable wear or damage, only light handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The action locks up tight with no play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Beretta 687 EELL in 20 gauge is a great example of quality Beretta shotguns. From the solid action to Bottega Giovanelli’s beautifully engraved scenes on the receiver, this is a shotgun that will turn some heads at the range with performance to match its looks. The shotgun is in about Excellent condition with only light handling wear, bright bores and strong mechanics. If you’re looking for a nice sporting shotgun, this is the one.
