Our Assessment: From the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Edition, page 245: “Introduced in May of 1980. Double-action revolver built on the square butt N service frame…originally ordered for the New York State Police but never delivered. The only .357 Magnum manufactured on an N frame without target sights. Weight 40oz “N” serial range of N557750-N560860 with 3,000 manufactured in 1980.” This is a rare gem that has survived quite well. About 98% of the finish remains; the cylinder has a turn line that has not crossed through the finish. The grip has a tiny scuff at the top-front corner on the right panel but no other wear or damage. The bore is bright with very little evidence of use. It looks like this pistol was handled and stored more than it was brought out to shoot with little evidence of use with live ammunition outside of the factory. This is a great addition to any Smith & Wesson or revolver collection. The original factory box, with reflective serial number and wax paper are included. Please see our photos and good luck!
