Make: Unkown

Model: Kentucky Rifle

Serial Number: NSN

Year of Manufacture: Unknown, ATF Antique

Caliber: .38 Caliber Percussion (The bore diameter measures 0.36” land to land, approximately .39″ groove to groove)

Action Type: Single Shot Percussion

Markings: None

Barrel Length: 38”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a very short blade in a base which is dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a rounded-eared “V” notch dovetailed into the top of the barrel.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece full-stock with a straight grip and a cheekpiece. The following brass furnishings are found: a crescent shaped buttplate on the butt, a long spurred trigger guard, escutcheons around the stock wedge, the forend’s nosecap, and ramrod guides. There is a non-ferrous metal plate on the cheekpiece which has been decorated with what appears to be a bird. The grain on the wood is gorgeous and there are only a few light handling marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 7/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. All brass fixtures show light wear and light to moderate handling marks throughout. The stock rates in about Very Good-Fine overall condition.

Type of Finish: The barrel and lockplate may have been “In The White” or Rust Brown, but we are guessing the former. The barrel currently has a thick dark patina. The nipple appears like new.

Finish Originality: Likely refinished.

Bore Condition: The bore is dark with deep rifling. There is heavy erosion throughout the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 0% of its metal finish. The non-brass surfaces all show a dark patina with the exception of the nipple which appears new. The hammer has some light pitting and the lockplate has some very light pinprick erosion. The barrel has a few marks scattered throughout with slightly rounded edges. The screw heads have light tool wear with useable slots. Overall, this rifle is in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This is a Kentucky Rifle with a 38″ barrel, approximately .38 caliber. With its long barrel and sight radius, the Kentucky Rifle was one of the most accurate percussion rifles ever made. The lack of markings makes it difficult to determine if this is an old piece of history or a more modern homage, no matter what it has a gorgeous stock and would look good in any American home. Please see our photos and good luck!

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This Antique rifle can be transferred/sold in California.
