Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this handgun, though we wish we did. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes in a blue plastic foam padded Colt box with serial matching end label, manual, chamber flag and warranty card as well as a total of two 9-round magazines marked as described in the Markings section. Also included is a new-in-packaging Colt Custom Accessories .38 Super Conversion Kit with barrel and one 9-round magazine. All of these are in Excellent condition.
Our Assessment: This pistol looks for all the world like it was purchased and then put away. The luster of the bluing on the flats of the slide is of a quality known to Colt fans everywhere, the oiled plastic bag is still present, the installed magazine has slight wear from insertion while the additional magazine looks brand new. The packaging on the conversion kit still looks new. This would make a great addition to any 1911 collection as the 9×23 Winchester was only produced for one year. The cartridge itself is interesting. Introduced as a competition to the .38 Super, it is rimless which lends itself to feeding better than the .38 Super and can withstand much greater pressures, putting it into the realm of .357 Sig for pressure and power. While this pistol in this condition is likely of greater interest to collectors, it would also make a fine defensive pistol. Please see our photos and good luck!
