Personally, the lightly aged appearance of the grips adds beauty to the gun and does not distract from the overall grading. The grips are an Excellent condition, the scratch mentioned and the discoloration might lead others to Fine.
Type of Finish: Blue and Gold
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore was not inspected, to retain the overall excellent quality of the finish we did not cock the hammer in this shop or disassemble. There is no reason for us to believe that the bore is not bright, sharp, and clear of erosion.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 99% of its metal finish. The gun has been stored or displayed most of its life. There is the small scratch in the left grip that is the only puzzling mark to the gun. There is a small mark where the timing notch might have dragged, once. The cylinder was never turned or the gun disassembled in this shop. It has been before, but the evidence is easily overlooked and likely done by a surgeon last. The gun was assembled with pride and care, likely function tested and then stored in the case. We don’t have another to compare it to, the screw heads are Sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: We did not test the action, there is no reason to assume that it does not function properly given the overall condition.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Displayed in a factory roll-top case and also displayed with six-point gold sheriff badge. There is a key in the case.
Our Assessment: At first you see the case and ask yourself, what goes in there? Then you roll the front and see the badge and a gorgeous gold inlay, plated and engraved, with bright grips and hand checkering in a classic diamond pattern. Class A+ all the way. We don’t have a letter on the gun, but from what we can tell by others that the gun was likely engraved by Colt Master Engraver Bryson Gwinnell in the 1980’s. It is on the C&R list, in a factory roll top display that we have never seen before, and in Excellent overall condition. A great addition to any collection, a beautiful gun with great attention to detail masterfully engraved and sculpted inlay.
