Overall, this handgun rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The slide has solid fit to the frame, the action glides with fluidity. The controls are similar to Colt’s famous 1911 design, with an extended ambidextrous thumb safety, beavertail grip safety, adjustable trigger and skeletonized hammer. The trigger is crisp and light. The back of the frame has a ‘Bobtail’ cut at the heel of the grip frame, the rear grip strap is smooth, the front has fine checkering. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: Colt’s 1911 served the U.S. Military all the way up to the early 1980’s; nearly every American has seen one on TV, in a movie or in their grandparent’s collection. The design is so legendary; hundreds of other manufacturers have followed its path and tried to improve upon the design, but without much change to the overall operation. This is a Dan Wesson Classic in Commander Length with a host of upgrades that you would be hard pressed to attain with any normal gunsmith’s work. This is a beautiful 1911 Commander-style pistol with night sights and a ‘bobbed’ grip frame which helps with larger hands. If you need something to protect your house or to run concealed out in public, this would be a fantastic option.
