Sights / Optics: The rifle is equipped with a fixed front sight post and a two-position rear aperture sight, consistent with early AR-15/SP1 configurations.
Stock Configuration & Condition: This rifle features special presentation-grade wood furniture, setting it apart from standard SP1 models. The buttstock, pistol grip, and handguards are all made of wood, providing a unique and elegant contrast to the Parkerized finish. The furniture is in good condition, showing only minor handling marks, though there is a small crack on the top of the cheek of the buttstock. The buttplate has two small cracks near the heel, and the cleaning kit compartment in the stock is empty.
Type of Finish: Gray Parkerized with Gold Color Fill Markings
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no visible erosion, and in this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original finish, with minor finish loss on the carry handle and slight wear on other high-contact areas. There is surface rust on the birdcage flash hider, the ejection port cover, and a small amount on the barrel behind the front sight. The gray Parkerizing has an even, attractive tone, complementing the gold-colored fill in the factory markings, which adds to the exclusivity and presentation-grade appearance of this SP1. The markings remain crisp and legible, and the rifle retains all the slick-side features of early Colt SP1 models, with no forward assist or brass deflector. A black sling is installed. Overall, this rifle rates in very good to excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The trigger breaks cleanly, and the bolt cycles smoothly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Magazine Quantity & Condition: One Colt 20-round magazine is included, in good condition with only minor wear.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None
Our Assessment:
The Colt SP1 is a legendary rifle in the world of AR-15 collectors, representing the earliest civilian-legal variant of the M16 platform. The SP1 Presentation Model, however, takes this rifle to another level of rarity and desirability. Colt reserved a special block of serial numbers for presentation rifles, intended for high-ranking employees, dignitaries, and esteemed individuals associated with the company.
This specific rifle, serial number SP100075, is one of only 100 known presentation models, making it an extraordinarily rare Colt collectible. The gold-color fill in the factory markings, combined with the wood furniture, creates a striking aesthetic that sets it apart from standard SP1 rifles. The gray Parkerized finish has a uniform, pleasing tone, with minor surface rust on the flash hider, ejection port cover, and barrel behind the front sight, along with light finish loss on the carry handle. The buttstock has a small crack at the cheek, two small cracks in the buttplate, and an empty cleaning kit compartment, but remains solid and functional.
For serious Colt collectors, military firearm enthusiasts, and AR-15 historians, this is one of those true “holy grail” rifles. With its presentation-grade status, rare serial number block, and well-preserved condition, this SP1 Presentation Model is an investment-grade piece that belongs in the finest collections. So bid high and bid firm. Please take a look at the condition in our high-quality photos. Good luck with your bid. -K.F.
