The End of The Trail: Where We’ll Be In June…

Taking Stock #16; The End of The Trail: Where We’ll Be In June…

It was the most anticipated event on the cowboy calendar, maybe even more real than Christmas, in a working cowboy’s year.  When the long cattle drive was over, and the dust had settled, the cowboy pocketed his earnings, and raised a ruckus at the End of the Trail.

Modern cowboys can still do the same!  Every year, cowboys and cowgirls, ranch hands, preachers, schoolmarms and saloon girls gather at Founders Ranch, just outside ofEdgewood,New Mexico, for the annual World Championships of Cowboy Action Shooting!  Sponsored by SASS, the Single Action Shooting Society, it is host to hundreds and hundreds of shooters from across theUnited States, and literally, around the world.

Folks, if you haven’t tried cowboy action shooting yet, you owe it to yourself to do so.  It is, as any one that has done so, “…as much fun as you can have with your clothes on, and not get arrested!”  Cowboy Action shooters select period appropriate costumes (with some concessions to modern reality and comfort, of course!) and bang away at steel with a brace of sixguns, a lever action rifle, and a 12 gauge shotgun.  It’s all in good fun, of course, but the guys’n’gals at the top of their game can do this at breakneck speed, which will leave your jaw dropping and your senses reeling in disbelief.  The competition is very real, but the setting is so family friendly that you could swear you were inDisneyland; but the guns and ammo are real!

We like Cowboy Action Shooting here at Lock, Stock & Barrel; we have a couple of National and World Champions here on staff, and the ramrod of LS&B, Spencer, has won considerable renown as a 3-time Overall Cowboy Action World Champion.

End of Trail will be taking place this year from June 16-24.  Spence is going to be there, and I am, too.   It really is a hoot, a grand time, with music, saloons, horseback riding, cowboy demonstrations of every description, and, of course, lots, and lots of shooting!

Lock Stock & Barrel will remain open for business, taking in consignments, and running our E-Bay store, but there will not be any new listings, as Spence defends his 2011 World Championship.  Stay tuned; we’ll keep you posted on how we do!
