Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right is marked “.38 S.&W. SPL.”. The left side of the frame has S&W’s monogram logo, the right has the four-line Marcas Registradas address. The sides of the grip frame and the crane have inspection marks. The yoke cut is marked “MOD. 60-1”. The butt is marked with the serial number. The yoke and sides of the grip frame are marked with inspection marks. The barrel flat is marked “S” and the rear face of the cylinder is marked “V”.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall serrated ramped blade integral to the rib. The rear sight is a square notch micrometer adjustable target sight mounted to the topstrap.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered wood magna stocks with S&W medallions. There are a few scattered little marks. The most notable defect are cracks on the interior of the left panel from over tightening. The checkering is strong. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some scattered scuffs and light draglines, some have caused smooth spots. There are some scattered little nicks. The most noticeable wear is on the grip frame and trigger guard. The cylinder has a turn-line. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear and easily read. Overall, this revolver is in about Fine condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder has light play on each chamber with the trigger depressed. The double action trigger is smooth, the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Smith & Wesson Model 60, the world’s first stainless steel revolver, was a success since its introduction in 1965. Praised by both law enforcement and sportsmen, the Model 60 was a stainless steel version of the Chiefs Special; and began the era of stainless steel handgun production. The Model 60 is the perfect choice for those seeking a small frame, all-steel revolver with greater recoil control and proven performance. It has been popular with law enforcement and citizens alike since its release and is in production to this day. This revolver was manufactured in so many variations that the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson’s description is on 4 pages. Variations from of barrel lengths, target sights, +p, .357 magnum, lady smith…the list goes on. There were a lot of special orders for police departments, with special serial numbers as well. This one is from a limited edition run of guns that were produced for Ashland Shooting Supply. The model features a tall front sight and a micrometer rear target sight.
